About Shelby
My name is Shelby and I am one of the faces behind Aster Creek & Wyrmhund Dachshunds & Australian Shepherds. I have been raised with Dachshunds my entire life, so it was a no-brainier to me when I got into the breed. As a teenager, I started researching everything there was to know about the breed and started running with the “big dogs” so to speak as soon as I could. I have been breeding Dachshunds since 2011, getting my first breeding Dachshund named Hazel. When I was an older teen we got our first Australian Shepherds and I also fell in love with this breed quickly. Always just having them as pets, I finally chose to delve into the breed in early 2024 by getting our first female. We will continue to learn about the breed and watch her grow, letting our passion for the breed grow just as much as Dachshunds have over the years.

About Melissa
My Parents bred St. Bernard's during my childhood; many of the fun memories I have from that period of my live involves the Saints in one way or another! Harnessed Saints pulling us kids down the ice slicked streets on sleds, pulling us in wagons during the summer, using them as giant warm beds when we became tired. Both sets of my grandparents had Dachshunds, so it was natural for me to gravitate towards them, once I realized I didn't want large dogs. Dachshunds are large in attitude but small in size, so they fit the bill perfectly.

Our goal as breeders and exhibitors has always been to produce sound dogs in health, temperament, and structure. We believe a balanced dog is a healthy dog and stand firm that just because the dog is purebred, doesn't make it a healthy dog. We breed for dogs that fit as close to the standard of the AKC (American Kennel Club) and UKC (United Kennel Club) as we can achieve. Through this process, pedigrees are carefully studied and health testing is performed to ensure that our dogs are as healthy as can be. We are always willing to help educate the public about responsible breeders and ownership.

To help people understand what it means to own a dog of our breed(s) and give them the best life they can provide. To understand the necessity of health testing and making sure the dog is properly cared for through exercise for both the mind and body, nutrition, training, and routine health care. Dogs are our companions for their entire lives and always deserve the respect of any living creature to be treated properly.
